Strengthen Your Professional Network by Doing One Favor Every Week

Your professional network can be your most powerful tool when it comes to most careers. You can keep your network strong by doing one favor for one person in your network every week.

It's difficult—and pretty uncool—to ask for help when it seems like you never return the favor. If you find that you're always too busy to keep in favor with your network, Kofi Kankam, the founder and CEO of Admit Advantage, suggests you pick just one person every week to try and help:

Beyond meeting other people via networking events, etc., I consider making an effort to reach out to at least one contact in your network per week and see how you can help this person. You'll spend time strengthening your current network, will get some perspective on problems which may impact your business, and be well-positioned to have folks think of ways they can help you.

As you rotate through your network, you'll keep in touch with everyone enough to stay on good terms. They'll see you being helpful and hopefully return the favor someday. Even if you're extremely busy, you probably have time to reach out to one person per week. What goes around, comes around.
