Yesterday, the image of a pizza-topped pizza slice damn near broke the internet. As it turns out, the creator of this brain-melting food item was none other than beloved Williamsburg slice shop Vinnie's. Today, with god knows how many people going in and asking for it, Vinnie's did the best and only thing a pizzeria could do in a situation like this: give the people what they want.
At least for today, it's possible to experience a slice of pizza pizza for yourself. With any luck, it will stay on regular rotation. Maybe one day they'll even deliver whole pizza pizza pies.
Meanwhile, Sean Berthiaume, an employee of Vinnie's and the creator of the pizza lover's delight drops some crucial pizza (and life) wisdom in an interview with First We Feast, so listen up.
1) What's the best way to eat it? Like an Oreo, there's no wrong way to eat this pizza. "It's totally up to the person. There are several ways to eat it. It's open to interpretation." Tell that to pizza philosopher Sir Patrick Stewart.
2) Be proud of your snack creations: "There are lots of people out there creating amazing things in the amateur snack science field, like doughnut burritos, bacon cakes, and...uh....salads. Those are the true heroes."
3) Inspiration can come from anywhere: "I see inspiration all around, in the hearts and minds of the customers that frequent Vinnie's everyday. Their eyes seem to say, ‘Pizza, I like it, I would like more of it.' That, and I was bored on my break."
